In Romans 1: 16-17 the Apostle Paul expresses that he is not ashamed of the gospel because it is the power of God for salvation, for everyone who believes. In this gospel or good news the justice that comes from God is revealed. In other words, this gospel reveals how God makes the believer righteous. Why is the gospel good news? It is good news because it is written in the word of God that there has not been a righteous person on this earth since the fall of Adam until today. "There is no one who understands, there is no one who seeks God. All have strayed, they have become useless; there is no one who does good, there is not even one." Romans 3: 11-18. God makes clear in his word that man, by his corrupted nature is not righteous and that he cannot be at peace with God and enjoy the benefits of God's kingdom because of his sins and injustice. But God who can do everything had a plan prepared before the foundation of the world to make us righteous before Him. Since we could not do anything for ourselves in the condition of sinner that we found ourselves, He was going to have to intervene and rescue us of our sins and injustice. God Himself had to come in the person of Christ Jesus to save us and make us righteous before God. The Lord Jesus Christ personally came to give us this good news. And what is the good news? This, that with the simple fact of believing in your heart in the Righteous Son of God you are declared just in the eyes of God. This is the only way that God decided to save us and make us righteous. "For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation" 2 Corinthians 5:19 (NLT). This is the wonderful justice that comes from God and there is nothing you can do but accept that you are a sinner, that you are unjust, that you cannot do anything by yourself, that your good works are like filthy rags and that you need a Savior. God did it this way for a reason, as Ephesians 2: 8-9 says "Because by grace you have been saved through faith; this does not come from you, but is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast." As you can see, this salvation is from start to finish by faith. If you have believed with all your heart this good news, the Holy Spirit will take care of giving you the new birth without which it is impossible for you to see and enter the Kingdom of God which He has placed in the hearts of those who believe. By believing, God has inputted you with the righteousness of Christ. Now we are the righteousness of God. What marvelous news!
